John Dunning
NW Island Escapes

Following graduation from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor Degree in Business and Marketing, I held a number of positions in the banking and insurance industries before starting a natural foods company that ultimately became one of the largest makers of raw-milk rennetless cheese in the natural food industry.  As odd as it might seem, simultaneously i also started an equipment leasing company which I then ran for twenty years prior to selling it to a large community bank in Northern California.  Next, I came to the northwest and purchased a Windemere Rea Estate office in the San Juan Islands.  During this Windermere career path, I entered the vacation rental industry starting with 6 managed homes on San Juan Island, which grew into what is now Northwest Island Escapes, the largest vacation rental agency in the San Juan Islands.  Each year NWIE hosts more than 10,000 vacation guests to San Juan, Orcas and Lopez Islands so that they can enjoy what I have enjoyed for so many years.  These guests come to the island for all of the right reasons...to experience the peaceful, quiet life along with the natural beauty that is so much of these islands.  Our mission is to have them leave the Islands the way they found them on arrival.  Pristine and undisturbed.  I became a Board Member with NWVRP several elections ago while participating in one of our Sleeping Lady conferences.  I was so impressed with the educational program, the professional level of the attendees, and the future I saw for the organization that I volunteered to run for office.  I can truly say that my membership in NWVRP has been one of the highlights in my business career operating a vacation rental agency.
